the worst tours?!
YES! these might very well be the worst tours in the world!! ...Or at least in Porto. And WHY would this tour be the worst of all, you ask? Well, these tours are so lame (everybody agrees!!) that the guides aren’t even guides, the route is never set before the beginning of the walk and we mostly stay out of the monumental, shiny, super nice city center. So, above all, lower your expectations. These are walking debates imagined, organized and run (in bad english, lame french or faking most southern european languages) by three architects of the city (locals, if you will) through Porto’s neighbourhoods, alleys, corners, urbanism, squares, history, blocks, politics, tascas, places fallen off maps (and/or general perception) and ideas that may be. Everybody seems to want to be the BEST-chocolate cake, francesinha or tourism destination- nowadays, so there was very little competition for the title...
HOW DOES IT WORK? Well, you book a tour with us (this is 'us', by the way), filling our form here at this website, and we’ll reply back to you, via email, with time availabilities and a place to start our walk together – typically, uptown (most of the tours start from Marquês square, that has a metro line, with the same name, on the yellow line), so we can make most of our way going down... or at the kiosk. Most of the days there is a tour, but, notice, we like smaller groups, (up to eight people is perfect!) so if there are too many bookings for one given day, we may consider the tour ‘full’ - so book your worst tour sooner rather than later ! Then, we meet, decide on a route together, and walk. Rain or shine. (bring confortable shoes, a warm sweater, a friend and an umbrella or raincoat) We'll probably get lost (what, in Porto, requires some imagination) and we won't know everything, for sure. But we'll probably have the phone number of whoever does. ...Fancy a walk? we promise it'll be fun and maybe you'll even learn something new about the city.
HOW much does this cost? We couldn't put a pricetag on love for Porto, but we got all these theories on the subject.
(note: People from Porto are all invited, always, to join the tours and the discussion - and why wouldn’t they want to wonder in our own town with other people from all over the world, debating what is and what could be? With so many global trends and processes, some happening at once, some some at different points in time, in urban centers, what can be learned from and between Venice, Barcelona, Lisboa... Porto? )
Wanna know more about this project? ... check out this website! You can get to now the history of The Worst Tours, what people are saying about us on our trip advisor page or through our media clippings, what the tours are like or all about our fabulous kiosk. or just book a tour (how bad can it be??)
